Assessing the damage

So Nick (the guy who sold me the pinball) said that there was “a problem with the power” .. and the right cannon is missing some parts.. and maybe some other stuff, but he doesn’t know because it doesn’t power on properly.

.. time to get the power on!

First I open the backbox to find.. crap loads of electronics!

Backbox insides .. that’s a lot of green bits.

Now lets find the malfunctioning power driver board.

Power board .. note down all the connections kids.. we’re about to pull that thing out and take a look at it!

Power board Out on the table After about 20 minutes of poking it with a circuit tester and examaning the entire PCB with a very very high powered maginifying glass, I couldn’t find anything wrong! .. so I employed my pattented “This works 99% of the time” fix.. cleaning everything!

I sprayed down all the connectors with WD40 (I love this stuff! but the stink drives Rachel nuts!) and cleaned all the dirty looking connectors very carfully with a tiny flat head screwdriver.

I wired it all back in and now it powers on! Unfortunatly there is a blown 5Amp fuse so the lights aren’t working and that makes for a pretty crappy victory pic, so I’ll take one later once I get the fuse! 🙂
