.. ok, it’s a crap joke .. But check it out! I’ve got a whole crap load of shiny attached to my bike I went for my first proper ride with the new exhaust today and I think it’s really made a difference to the power which is cool. I think it’s also a little quieter than my last exhaust.. but then I might be comparing that to the sound it was making with the whopping great rusty holes in it

Avid readers may recall that a while ago I got myself a shiny new exhaust for my bike.

You would have thought that I’d have changed it by now! But you wouldn’t believe how must hassle I’ve had getting my nuts off! [boom boom!]

My old twin exhaust splits into four pipes that go up into the bike at the front. Each pipe has an elliptical metal plate that holds it in place, secured with two bolts.

These bolts have been an absolute bitch to remove! They’re completely round on the outside and on the inside they have a screw thread at the back to go onto the bike and a hex hole in the front to do them up. Now ordinarily this wouldn’t be a problem.. you stick in your allen key and undo the nut.. right?.. Wrong! You stick your allen key in and then the hex bits of the nut which are really rusty come flying off and you’re left with a nice round hole in the middle!! .. Which I’m sure you understand is a little difficult to turn the nut with!!

Anyway, without further adue, I present; on the right.. one of the nuts that wasn’t that rusted and looks about ok.. and on the left.. the bane of my life for the last few weeks.

Can you see where I’ve “modified” it

I used my new dremel to cut it so that I could turn it. What I wanted to do was cut down the sides to make it so that I could stick a spanner straight onto it, but I couldn’t get in close enough because of all the pipes in the way.. so this is the result. Anyway, it’s off now! and as soon as my new nuts arrive I can stick on my new exhaust and get my bike through its MOT! Hurrar!

My bike failed it’s mot due to the exhaust being made out out recycled pants and selotape [Booo!] So I decided to splash out and order a shiny new exhaust! [Yeay!]

It’s a Motad Nexxus and it’s made of shiny. (stock pics only as it’s not delivered yet!)

Apparently:

Using full 18/8 grade stainless steel pipes matched to an impeccably styled sports silencer, these are the definitive sports tourer systems. The silencers are finished in deep lustre chrome (on double layer nickel-BS 1224 cond 4 severe external use) and styled to match the bodywork of your bike.

I’m not entirely sure what the 18/8 grade bit is.. I just like it because it’s shiny! .. oh and because by the look of it, there are only about six bolts to take out to fit it!
