{"id":23,"date":"2006-08-06T15:54:42","date_gmt":"2006-08-06T14:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sonicpenguins.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/06\/assessing-the-damage\/"},"modified":"2006-08-17T11:08:46","modified_gmt":"2006-08-17T10:08:46","slug":"assessing-the-damage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sonicpenguins.com\/blog\/2006\/08\/06\/assessing-the-damage\/","title":{"rendered":"Assessing the damage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So Nick (the guy who sold me the pinball) said that there was &#8220;a problem with the power&#8221; .. and the right cannon is missing some parts.. and maybe some other stuff, but he doesn&#8217;t know because it doesn&#8217;t power on properly.<\/p>\n<p>.. time to get the power on!<\/p>\n<p>First I open the backbox to find.. crap loads of electronics!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Backbox insides\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sonicpenguins.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/2006-08-06-6842-backbox-insides.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image19\" height=\"96\" alt=\"Backbox insides\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sonicpenguins.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/2006-08-06-6842-backbox-insides.thumbnail.JPG\" \/><\/a>\u00a0.. that&#8217;s a lot of green bits.<\/p>\n<p>Now lets find the malfunctioning power driver board.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Power board\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sonicpenguins.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/2006-08-06-6830-powerboard-wired_s.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image20\" height=\"96\" alt=\"Power board\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sonicpenguins.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/2006-08-06-6830-powerboard-wired_s.thumbnail.jpg\" \/><\/a>\u00a0.. note down all the connections kids.. we&#8217;re about to pull that thing out and take a look at it!<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"imagelink\" title=\"Power board Out on the table\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sonicpenguins.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/2006-08-06-6865-powerboard.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image21\" height=\"96\" alt=\"Power board Out on the table\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sonicpenguins.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/08\/2006-08-06-6865-powerboard.thumbnail.JPG\" \/><\/a>\u00a0After about 20 minutes of poking it with a circuit tester and examaning the entire PCB with a very very high powered maginifying glass, I couldn&#8217;t find anything wrong! .. so I employed my pattented\u00a0&#8220;This works 99% of the time&#8221; fix.. cleaning everything!<\/p>\n<p>I sprayed down all the connectors with WD40 (I love this stuff! but the stink drives Rachel nuts!) and cleaned all the dirty looking connectors very carfully with a tiny flat head screwdriver.<\/p>\n<p>I wired it all back in and now it powers on!
